For those of you who visit and keep up to speed with what we do you know that we’re not “gear driven” like many of our peers. We love equipment and have always striven to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to cutting edge technology, but it has never been what drives us. We’ve always been client, and performance driven and we will continue to be what I may have been lax in what our equipment capabilities are and what we own.

Over the next few weeks I am going to go over our equipment in a easy to understand way to show you what we have, what it does, and how it can make your event better! Many clients are visiting our site after a recent holiday engagement or are starting the planning of their reception or event coming up this year and I hope this series of entries assists you in understanding the equipment aspect of what we do and how it helps us make your event awesome.

The first piece of equipment I’d like to tell you about is also our newest. The Q-Spot 260 LED is an amazing LED Intelligent Lighting effect that is both versatile and dynamic. For clients looking to add a high end modern look and aesthetic to their reception this a great addition. We currently have 4 of them in our inventory and they are truly amazing. For those of you looking for more detailed and “inside baseball” specifications and descriptions please message or contact me and I can answer any questiosn you have but I’m trying to keep this series more on the “what it does” than “how it does it” topic.

As weddings are our specialty this light was purchased with that in mind. One of the trends over the past few years in weddings in custom gobo or artwork projection and a service that we call “Name In Lights”. This light takes that to a new level! Many of our peers use a standard video projector like you’d see in a class room or office to project your name in lights. Its easy, cost effective, and a great add on with minimal cost. Last year we graduated t o a dedicated Gobo Projector which took our Name In Lights service to a higher level, due to its brightness, and gobo quality even in bright rooms. When you perform in the Finger Lakes the view is what brings many destination weddings and if the room is bright a standard projector just isn’t going to cut it. Now we’re raising the bar even higher. Not only can we project your Name In Lights we can project it where you want it when you want it! If you have space behind a sweetheart table during dinner and want it there for pictures…done! On the dance floor during cocktails and dinner…. done! On the wall during dancing so you can still see it…done!

The uses for the light are many but texture or pattern projection on walls, ceilings, floors is where this light really becomes amazing. It is both a spot light and an effect light so it can be uses to spot speakers or displays in dark rooms one minute and become part of a dynamic light show the next.

The last thing I will say about the light is maybe the coolest…. literally. Its cool, very low temperature. Over the past number of years I’ve attempted to make our equipment and Fingerlakes Entertainment as “Green” as possible. With the advancement in LED technology this is the first LED light of its kind that has rivaled its conventional halogen or discharge bulb cousins. It uses a 60 Watt White LED bulb as opposed to a 250 Watt Discharge bulb which would be its brightness equivalent. Not only is it “Green” it also allows flexibility and setup even in older venues, outdoor locations, or facilities with power access that previously wouldn’t allow us to use this type of light.

Photo Booth Rentals – What You Should Know

Fellow Event Creator Extraordinaire, Jason Jani from Sound Connection Entertainment in New Jersey tweeted the following link to a Project Wedding article regarding Photo Booth Rental. Before renting a Photo Booth make sure you have all the details from the venue and the Photo Booth company.

The article contains some very valuable and helpful information. In addition to the obvious, one onther MAJOR consideration should be the location of the Photo Booth at your event. This may seem like a simple detail but it can play a big role in the success of both the Photo Booth AND your party. The most ideal location for your Photo Booth would be in close proximity to the dance floor, and bar. If guests have to leave the room or bar to use the Photo Booth its working against your dance floor. Having it located near the dance floor and bar makes it part of a successful event and not something foreign or competitive to the other important entertainment offerings of your reception.

Photo booths are one of the hottest trends in wedding receptions. These fun enhancements are usually the life of the party – and are just as popular among celebrity couples as they are you and I!

Photo booth rentals are fun and can create one-of-a-kind memories, but they can also require a hefty portion of your wedding budget. Research the rental companies in your local area carefully before signing a contract. Here are a few details you should consider:

Space and Equipment Requirements

The size and layout of your reception venue play a big role in planning for a photo booth rental. Check the dimensions of the available booth models to be sure there’s enough room to set it up. A space that is out of the way, but near a high-traffic area is an ideal spot. Most booths require a nearby electrical outlet as well, although some companies may offer a battery power option.

Discuss any other needs the rental company may have – some may need an extra table for printing supplies, and inquire about the weight and portability of the booth. Also check with your venue coordinator about any requirements they may have before making rental arrangements. Many reception halls require these types of vendors to carry liability insurance in case of property damage.

Costs and Hidden Charges

Photo booth rentals are typically available at an hourly rate as well as a daily rate. At first glance, some companies may seem to offer a much better deal on a full day rental but several minor details – usually the fine print – could make a few hours a much better value.

Some photo booth rental companies include a specific number of sessions with their daily usage plan, charging an additional fee for extra sessions. Hourly rates are often advertised as unlimited, usually requiring a minimum number of hours. ‘Unlimited’ photos are limited by the booth’s capability – the number of shots taken in each session is the primary factor. Standard 4-photos per session booth can usually provide plenty of entertainment for 100 guests with just an hour and a half of rental time so compare prices carefully and ask the vendor if you’re unclear.

Extras

Many photo booth rental companies offer an assortment of options to make your reception even more fun and memorable. Personalized frames for place cards or party favors; slideshow projections of your guests’ photos during the end of the reception; some companies will make your photos into key chains or other keepsakes.

If you’re considering renting a photo booth for your reception, be sure to do your homework and compare the available vendors before making a decision. Photo booth rentals are an entertaining addition to your event, especially if you’re prepared and understand the costs.

Chris & Andrea Wedding Up Lighting Statler Hotel Cornell University

Full Room…Full Lighting Control=Awesome!!!!! Chris and Andrea had us provide lighting for their reception at the Statler Hotel on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca on July 3. We have been at Statler a number or previous times and always love working with Melissa and her staff. They are so acommodating to their clients and to us.
We set the room and linked all the fixtures back to our laptop and software based light contol. Chris and Andrea wanted to change the color of the lighting through out the evening and have ceretain colors for certain traditions. Dave was my light tech for the event and worked with Chris and Andrea to subtly set the room lighting/colors to their desired colors at the appropriate time. The rest of the evening we set the lights to match their wedding colors for 10 minute intervals and then did a 10 second gradient change from one color to another. I was very happy with the outcome and so were Chris and Andrea. The colors we used were in this sequence Green-Blue-Purple-Yellow. I was very happy with the yellow. Many LED Fixtures don’t replicate yellow or amber very well but I was very happy with the yellow.

On a side note. We are at the Statler often with event lighting. If only we could DJ there! Hire us to do both you’ll have a wonderful looking room AND a party for the ages!
